There are countless reasons for taking beginner guitar lessons online or offline. You may want to impress the girls (or boys) with your skills. Maybe you have a great singing voice and want to be able to accompany yourself, or you want to learn to play guitar so that you and your friends can form a band.
You don’t have to be young. People of all ages can take guitar lessons online and learn to play guitar. Perhaps you just want something to do that is fun and will help you to relax.
What To Look For In Your First Lessons
The first guitar lessons should cover all the basics of guitar playing. This includes getting to know your guitar. If you are opting for online guitar instruction then be sure to pick something that covers the type of guitar that you have and want to learn to play. The main types are acoustic, electric and bass. Bass guitar usually refers to an electric bass guitar.
Early in your lessons you will need to discover the names of the strings, how to hold the guitar, how to play chords and strum, and how to pick out individual notes. You will learn the fret positions for different chords and notes. You will also learn how to tune your guitar.
Then you will want to know how to follow guitar music on paper so that you can play simple songs. This is called learning tabs. You will begin with the easiest chords, but some popular songs are very simple to play and you should soon be able to play something that you or others can sing. This is when learning how to play guitar becomes so rewarding.
Making Progress
Of course there are some people who are more naturally talented at musical skills but pretty much anybody who is not tone deaf can learn to play a guitar to a standard that people will enjoy listening to. How quick you will reach that point depends mostly on how often you can practice. Yes, it is that simple! Practice every day and you will make progress very fast.
My recommendation to beginners is that they set aside a half hour every day for practice and let it go a little longer if they are having a good time. But there is no point practicing for several hours at a stretch. That just causes burn out so you will quickly lose interest.
Supplement your beginner guitar lessons with regular practice and you can become an amazing guitarist over time!
